First-hand reports
Chrysiis
Why did you choose Novartis for your Postdoc position?
Having completed a PhD in academia, I wanted to get closer to a more commercial and applied science environment. It is important for me that my research has the potential to be used in the future development of treatments for human disease. The postdoctoral program at NIBR offered me the ideal balance by allowing me to have a foot in both worlds.
You already did an internship at Novartis several years ago. Looking back, which was the most valuable experience you made during your internship?
The internship was my first proper experience of working in a laboratory. It was quite challenging to begin with, however, I quickly learned that time management and asking the right questions were key for being successful.
How did these experiences affect your studies afterwards?
My internship was complimentary to my studies and gave me the possibility to see the various opportunities for a career in science. It also helped me set my goals and priorities for both my undergraduate degree and my further career.
What are the experiences you have made so far as Postdoc at Novartis? What is different from your time as a student at Novartis?
I am enjoying the freedom and responsibility that comes with driving my own project. Furthermore, I am very happy to have the opportunity to learn the principles and procedures of drug development.
